What: Native American Traditional Crafts Day
When: Saturday, June 21, 2008, 10 am to 4 pm
Where: Cannes Brûlée Native American Museum, 415 Williams Blvd., Rivertown, Kenner, LA

Join us in celebrating the exquisite craftsmanship of local Native American artisans. Watch them create traditional crafts, which are also available for sale, while learning about Native American heritage from the artists. Make Friendship Necklaces, Eagle Talon Necklaces, or Clay Pinch Pots to take home.

$5.00 Special Event Price includes admission to the Cannes Brûlée Museum, craft demonstrations, and supplies to make the necklaces and the pinch pots. All children and adults welcome!

42nd Annual Spring Powwow this weekend

The Louisiana Indian Heritage Association this week kicks off the 42nd Annual Spring Powwow at its new location, the Lamar Dixon Arena in Gonzales, LA, from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27.

Intertribal and Gourd-Dancing, dance and princess competition, storytelling, exhibitions, crafts and food will be bountiful inside the sheltered arena. The new location is more easily accessible to both metro New Orleans and metro Baton Rouge, and will provide shelter come rain or shine, organizers say.

The Louisiana Foundation for the Humanities is offering an especially timely symposium on the Native American civil rights movement from the late 19th century, even as leaders and supports of American Indian rights are moving eastward on northern and southern trails of the Great Walk 2.

Dancers, Native Americans and the general public are invited to this celebration of American Indian culture, dancing food and education. For complete details on the spring events:

Cannes Brulee powwow cancelled

The Cannes Brulee powwow, which had been scheduled for April 12 at the Native American Heritage Museum in Kenner’s Rivertown has been cancelled, according to organizers. Details were not immediately available.

Calling of the Tribes Powwow March 14-16

HOUMA - The Calling of the Tribes Powwow - scheduled March 14-16 in Houma - offers gourd dancing, intertribal dance, Indian arts, crafts and food.

The event starts Friday evening at the Terrebonne Livestock Arena, 221 Moffet Road, Houma, LA.

Bring lawn chairs and celebrate the ending of a season, and the beginning of a new one at the Calling of the Tribes Powwow.

No alcohol, no drugs, no ice chest, and no bad attitudes allowed!
