About
The Louisiana Indian Heritage Association, a state chartered non-profit organization, is dedicated to the preservation and achievement of high standard Native American dancing, singing, arts, and crafts. The LIHA powwows provides the local Native American community the opportunity to showcase their traditions, with drum music and singing, dancing, regalia, crafts, food, storytelling and fellowship.
LIHA has its roots in the early 60s, during Sunday afternoon sings and crafts held by members of the Order of the Arrow. The first annual powwow in June 1967 was sponsored by the Senontiyak Indian Dancers of New Orleans to show friendship and brotherhood by exchanging ideas about the true customs and dances of the American Indian.
