42nd Annual Spring Powwow this weekend

 Poster of 2008 Spring PowwowThe Louisiana Indian Heritage Association this week kicks off the 42nd Annual Spring Powwow  at its new location, the Lamar Dixon Arena in Gonzales, LA, from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27.

Intertribal and Gourd-Dancing, dance and princess competition, storytelling, exhibitions, crafts and food will be bountiful inside the sheltered arena.  The new location is more easily accessible to both metro New Orleans and metro Baton Rouge, and will provide shelter come rain or shine, organizers say.

The Louisiana Foundation for the Humanities is offering an especially timely symposium on the Native American civil rights movement from the late 19th century, even as leaders and supports of American Indian rights are moving eastward on northern and southern trails of the Great Walk 2.

Dancers, Native Americans and the general public are invited to this celebration of American Indian culture, dancing food and education.  For complete details on the spring events:
